On January 7th, 2025, John Dramani Mahama was inaugurated as Ghana’s 14th President. A certain buzz is in the air as the country embarks on a new chapter, with fresh leadership and renewed hope for economic prosperity and improved livelihoods. The country’s digital landscape continues to expand, with a thriving tech ecosystem estimated to be valued at $2.6 billion. The potential for innovation and growth has never been greater.
At Panoply Digital, we are committed to supporting this transformation—driving digital inclusion, empowering businesses, and shaping policies that enhance Ghana’s digital infrastructure and economic opportunities.
Ghana’s Digital Potential: A Market on the Rise
Ghana has carved out a strong position in West Africa’s digital and tech space, building a thriving ecosystem and making significant strides in fintech, digital infrastructure, and policy innovation. The data speaks for itself:
Mobile penetration in Ghana exceeds 130%, with over 43.8 million mobile connections as of early 2023, highlighting high connectivity rates.
The mobile money sector continues to thrive, with 23.5 million active mobile money accounts recorded in 2024, reinforcing Ghana’s leadership in digital financial inclusion.
Ghana’s digital economy is currently valued at approximately USD 1 billion and may reach USD 5 billion by 2030.
In 2022, Ghana developed its National Artificial Intelligence Strategy 2023–2033, which aims to “harness AI for inclusive growth across all sectors and improve citizens’ lives, positioning the country as a leader in AI within Africa and beyond.”
In late 2024, Ghana launched its Digital Economy Policy and Strategy, designed to drive economic growth, enhance public services, and ensure equitable digital access. The strategy focuses on five key areas, namely; Entrepreneurship; Digital Skills, Digital Government, Universal Access, and Emerging technologies
“By aligning digital efforts with job creation and GDP growth, the [Digital Economy Policy and Strategy 2024] policy aims to ensure that technology becomes a powerful engine for inclusive development, reducing poverty and enhancing prosperity for all Ghanaians.” Ministry of Information
By harnessing these drivers, Ghana has the opportunity to build a digital economy that is not only innovative but also equitable, ensuring reliable access to technology and fostering sustainable growth that benefits all citizens.
Panoply Digital’s Work in Ghana
Panoply Digital’s biggest project to date in Ghana is our collaboration with the Tony Blair Institute (TBI) for Global Change, where we worked with the TBI Digital Academy, which trains people working in government to build digital skills, culture, and leadership to enable successful digital transformation in their countries. Panoply Digital brought together a global team of digital skills experts to design dynamic training content and lead a 6-month programme across Ghana, Malawi, and Senegal. Delivered through a mix of in-person and online sessions, the programme not only equipped participants with essential digital skills but also included a robust impact measurement framework to track progress and outcomes.
Panoply Digital is committed to strengthening digital capacity across all sectors of society, ensuring that technology drives effective governance, service delivery, and economic growth. Building on our work with TBI, we plan to expand our reach in Ghana and beyond, equipping individuals, organisations, and communities with the skills, mindset, and tools needed for lasting digital transformation. Through strategic partnerships, tailored training, and ongoing research, we’ll continue to support impact-driven digital innovation that creates real, sustainable change.
Looking Ahead: A Call to Action
Ghana is on the cusp of a digital revolution, and with the right policies, investment, and capacity-building efforts, the country has the opportunity to set new benchmarks in digital innovation.
At Panoply Digital, we look forward to working alongside government, industry, and communities to ensure that technology serves as a tool for economic empowerment, social equity, and sustainable growth.
Let’s connect. Let’s innovate. Let’s shape the future together.
